Lindsey Wayland is a poet, calligrapher, and letter-writer who connects people to their community via the written word by creating and teaching about beautiful letters and calligraphy to inspire pause and a purposeful pace in a digital world. She is an analog calligrapher and does everything by hand.
Lindsey's calligraphic styles are inspired by art deco, abstract art, trees, fashion, the Victorian era and architecture, and interesting contrasting connections.
Lindsey believes in connection and she knows how to evoke it.
Having Lindsey present with you is a beautiful addition to your special day. For weddings, she calligraphs your guests’ marital wisdom and name onto the pages of a book for you to keep forever. She can also calligraph marital wisdom from the guests onto postcards to be sent to you throughout the first year of your marriage.
These are more interactive than a guestbook and preserve the wedding as a beautiful event in a couple’s life wherein their community came together to support their union.
Lindsey grew up in a family whose highest-regarded value was creativity. Any creative whim she had was nourished with great care. She wrote her first poem at age six. Her poetry volumes were comprised of artfully written script—it was her love of script which led her to calligraphy. She studied Creative Writing and Ceramics at Stephen F. Austin State University. She is a member of the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting, the oldest and largest penmanship organization, dedicated to practicing and preserving the beautiful arts of calligraphy. Lindsey is a faculty member at Port Townsend School of the Arts.
